Ted Post RIP

In what is becoming a sad week for the movie world it has been announced that the film, television and theatre director Ted Post has died at the age of ninety-five. In a career that began in the early nineteen fifties Ted Post initially gained a reputation as a director of Television series. His notable credits include The Twilight Zone and fifty-six episodes of Gunsmoke. It was during this time that he worked with a young Clint Eastwood on the Western series Rawhide over a period of six years and twenty-four episodes.

After Eastwood found international success in the spaghetti western trilogy in the late sixties, it was Post who was called upon to direct his first American set film, Hang ’em High. In many ways Ted Post was a major player in making Clint Eastwood the number one film star of the nineteen seventies. Eastwood is quoted as saying as much in several interviews.  The director and star would later collaborate on the Dirty Harry sequel Magnum Force which was a bigger hit than the original . In addition to the Eastwood films Ted Post was best known as the director of the Sci-Fi sequel Beneath the Planet of the Apes.
