In the second of his video essays Mark Zoller Seitz continues his study of the films of Wes Anderson. for his sophomore effort Anderson moved on to the high school set Rushmore. The film marked the introduction of some of the touches and effects that would come to be recognised as the directors signature style. The film also establishes Anderson’s use of a loose troupe of actors who would appear regularly in his following films.
The essay is an insightful and informative piece of film. The fondness for the subject and the admiration for the director shine through. The video gives fans of Anderson’s films a more in-depth understanding of his work while allowing casual viewers an introduction to his world. It is a very good piece of promotion for his exhaustive and weighty book of the same name.
