I still haven’t forgiven Ridley Scott for Prometheus, but the first images from The Martian, along with more detailed information about the cast list and plot, have actually really intrigued me. Matt Damon stars as Mark Watney, an astronaut marooned on Mars after a fierce storm leaves his crew assuming that he is dead. He must survive on limited supplies and technology, using only sheer determination to signal to Earth that he is still alive.
The cast list reads like a dream: Jessica Chastain, Aksel Hennie, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Jeff Daniels, to name a few. Sean Bean also makes an appearance … shall we give him half an hour? The first batch of on-set images to be released see Damon sporting a shaved head, loaded with equipment, looking forlorn and frustrated. It’s an exciting concept, hopefully one that will see Damon carry the film on his own, for the most part.
The Martian is due to hit screens at the end of November this year.
