Hot on the heels of the initial images from the new Ridley Scott film, The Martian, we start to get some of the marketing in the form of a viral trailer. This takes the form of a video diary which introduces the crew of The Hermes.
The short video is an unusual and effective marketing technique. whereas most films would release a straightforward teaser trailer, this gives the viewer an insight into the backgrounds of the characters while they are not in a dramatic situation. Like Scott’s previous Sci-Fi film, Prometheus, the marketing builds the expectations with footage that probably will not make the final cut.
The Martian stars Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kate Mara and Kristen Wiig. It is scheduled for release on the 27th of November 2015.
