The Mayans Look Set To Ride In SOA Spin-Off

Mayans_MCIt’s been said for a while now that we are in an era where TV has eclipsed movies in term of quality. Just like film studios, TV networks will look to capitalise on a show’s success, not just with how many seasons they can produce but by extending the world through spin-offs and shared universes. Acclaimed drama Breaking Bad proved to be so successful it spawned its own prequel/spin-off in Better Call Saul while the CW Network have created their own DC universe with Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow.

When Sons Of Anarchy ended it’s seven year run in 2014, fans of the show weren’t ready for the story to conclude. Neither was creator Kurt Sutter and rumours of a prequel that would focus on the original motorcycle club, primarily its founder, John Teller.

Rumours persist that Brad Pitt will taking the lead role, a move that would lend A list credibility to the show, but unfortunately these claims remain just rumour. What has been confirmed however is that the spin-off is certainly a goer and will focus on the Sons’
rivals and sometimes allies The Mayans.

Below is a tweet sent out by Sutter himself.Screen Shot 2016-07-22 at 16.38.25

As per the report Sutter Tweeted, “In the spirit of Sons of AnarchyMayans MC will be a dark, visceral family drama that takes a new look at the most American of icons, the 1% outlaw, this time reflected through a Latino lens, per FX.”

Elgin James is credited as co-creator and will be writing the pilot script. Sutter said of James, “I wanted to find a strong, unique Latino voice,” New Jersey-born Sutter said. “Because I didn’t think a white guy from Jersey should be writing about Latin culture and traditions. Elgin is that voice.”

There has been little else to go on, including what time period the Mayans MC will be set, however if the photo is any indication it won’t be too far out with the timeline of the original show. Charlie Hunnam, who played lead Jax Teller, also stated he won’t be returning for one last ride.

Are you happy with the direction the spin-off is taking? Please let us know in the comments.
