Glasgow Film Festival 2017 Full Programme Announced

The full programme for the 2017 Glasgow film festival has been revealed. More than 310 separate events and screenings of films from 38 countries will show across the city from 15-26 February 2017, from featuring jaw-dropping documentaries and carefree comedies, grisly horrors and delicate dramas, plus unforgettable once-in-a-lifetime events.

Glasgow Film Festival 2017 will open with the European premiere of John Butler’s Irish coming-of-age charmer Handsome Devil. Other major highlights include screenings for films including Paul Verhoeven’s Golden Globe-winning Elle, Ben Wheatley’s action-packed 1970s caper Free Fire; Lone Scherfig’s bittersweet star-stuffed wartime morale booster Their Finest; Olivier Assayas’s Personal Shopper, and Hope Dickson Leach’s The Levelling. Glasgow sporting legends will get the big screen treatment with the International Premiere of Canadian actor-filmmaker Jay Baruchel’s Celtic Soul and the World Premiere of Benny, a celebration of the greatest boxer Scotland has ever produced. The European premieres of charming road move Folk Hero & Funny Guy and Flying Lotus’ dark debut Kuso will also take place at GFF17.

Among the films receiving their UK premieres at GFF17 are Raoul Peck’s profoundly timely look at at what it means to be black in America I Am Not Your Negro; Terrence Malick’s visually astonishing Voyage of Time: Life’s Journey narrated by Cate Blanchett; Cate Shortland’s (Somersault) Berlin Syndrome, hot-on-the-heels of its upcoming Sundance world premiere; Werner Herzog’s eco thriller Salt and Fire starring Michael Shannon; and the no-holds-barred black comedy Catfight starring Sandra Oh and Anne Heche as two University rivals whose forty-something reunion ends in a bloody brawl.
