Lady Gaga took to social media to share the first image of herself and Bradley Cooper starring in the latest remake of A Star is Born. This will be the fourth time the film is remade and the pop icon will be following in the (fairly weighty) footsteps of divas Janet Gaynor, Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand.
Gaga will be credited as Stefani Germanotta for the film, and this will continue the Born This Way singer’s foray on to the screen, following her Golden Globe-winning performance in American Horror Story: Hotel.
The image shows Bradley Cooper looking a little disheveled, strumming on a guitar, whilst the pop icon looks completely different from her usual, over-the-top ensembles.
The film is something of a passion project for Germanotta, as she had previously stated how inspiring she found both Garland and Streisand whilst she was forging her early career in music.
The Instagram picture is captioned with: “I am so excited to star in my first movie alongside someone I’m so lucky to call my friend. I always wanted to be an actress on the big screen. The story of A Star is Born is so special and I’m so grateful to Bradley for making my dream come true.”
Fellow diva, Beyonce, was also linked with the female lead role at one initial stage.
A Star is Born follows an aspiring actress (Gaga) who is helped along the way by an ageing musician (Cooper) whose career is on the outs. The film also marks Cooper’s directorial debut.
No trailer has been released yet, but will no doubt appear soon.
