Carrie

The trend for remakes over new properties shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. I know that remakes and sequels are the staple for most major film studios these days but it doesn’t make it any less disheartening to get word of yet another classic from my childhood being given a going over. Opening soon is the new version of the nineteen seventies horror classic Carrie.  In an attempt to separate it from the other Horror films recently remade the film is being called a re-imagining. Never one to knock down a film until I have seen it for myself I am unsure what to make of it.

The trailer gives slightly more than a taste of what to expect from the feature. In fact if you have any passing knowledge of the original you will see that little has been changed. Unusually for a Hollywood film the two lead roles in the film are females with Julianne Moore as the mother and Chloe Grace Moretz in the title role of Carrie. Both are quality actors and the hope is that they will raise the film above the usual level that remakes find themselves.

Carrie is released in the US on 18th October and the UK on 29th November.
