One film is considered a sic-fi classic. The other is considered a slap in the face to a sci-fi classic. Neither needs a sequel, yet according to director Ridley Scott the follow-ups to both respective films have been written.
“Blade Runner 2 is written and is damn good,” says Scott. When asked if Harrison Ford will return, he states, “of course it involves Harrison, who is a survivor after all these years – despite the accident. So yes, that will happen.”
Whether it should happen is another thing. The biggest mystery involving Blade Runner’s ending has since been answered with the film itself being re-released in many different cuts. Prometheus is a film that left movie goers with many questions, to the point that fans were rightfully pissed off with the Lost style storytelling.
Although Scott will direct Blade Runner 2: Rise of the Replicants (I just made that up), it’s looking likely that someone else will take over the reins of Prometheus 2: David’s Revenge (Don’t rule it out). Which may not be a bad thing considering how the last one turned out.
I doubt very much that James Cameron will step up to the plate, who would you like to see direct the Prometheus sequel?
