Relish – Trailer

Set as a modern day breakfast club, Relish follows the story of five teenage outcasts, who escape a private treatment facility in hopes of attending the infamous Dreamland Music Festival. Led by a rebellious transgender male, Kai (Tyler DiChiara), and with help from Aspen (Hana Hayes), a social media influencer, Levi (Mateus Ward), a football player addicted to opioids, Theo (Rio Mangini), who suffers from bipolar disorder, and Sawyer (Chelsea Zhang) an alien obsessed nerd, the five embark on the journey of a lifetime.
The film brings a level of authenticity to the heart-wrenching struggles and challenges faced by modern teens, especially by the transgender community today. It is an emotional, and inspiring tale about the powerful bond of friendship, dealing with ones own personal demons, and learning that our differences make us special.

Director Justin Ward states “My goal as a filmmaker is to challenge our need to label and locking people into a preconceived box. We are all so much more than how we are seen. Teenagers today are faced with overwhelming decisions, extreme peer pressure and blatant social and public bullying, that freedom is a hard concept for them to truly understand. I wanted a raw, candid look at issues kids face today, while embarking on a coming-of-age story about a teenage girl who takes her power back, finds her voice, and learns acceptance. Finally, with this film,I really wanted to explore the concept of freedom. I think that is what coming-of-age is about our relationship with freedom. I wanted to explore these questions: What is freedom? Freedom of mind? Freedom of body? Freedom of thought? Freedom of speech? What if we all had the freedom to be ourselves, what would we do with that freedom?”

Relish stars Hana Hayes, Mateus Ward, Rio Mangini, Chelsea Zhang, Matthew Nardozzi, with James Morrison and Angel Parker, and introducing Tyler DiChiara. Written, directed, and produced by Justin Ward.
