From Human to Ape – Motion capture in action

Courtesy of Wired magazine a featurette has been released that goes behind the scenes of the hit move Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes to give the audience a look at how the motion capture technique was employed to great effect. The starting point is the actors performance in the Mo-Cap suit. This is then built upon by the technicians who produce the final images we see on-screen.

The video gives a bit of insight into the process and the part that all the participants play. It shows that contrary to popular belief, the actor plays a huge part in the process of making the apes look and sound real. It gives a little for credence to the calls for Andy Serkis to be at least considered for a nomination in an acting category at the various award ceremonies.
