Mission: Impossible V director announced

It has been officially announced that Christopher McQuarrie will be in the directors chair for the forthcoming Mission Impossible film. The news has just been confirmed on both McQuarrie’s and star Tom Cruise’s twitter feeds. The film will see the director and star teaming up for a third time after working together on The Hitler assassination  drama Valkyrie , where McQuarrie was the writer, and the recent Jack Reacher thriller. Paramount obviously liked what they saw with the Reacher film and took up Cruise’s recommendation on the successor to Brad Bird.

Further details are a bit thin on the ground. Plot details are not available at present and only Tom Cruise is confirmed to return with the likelihood that Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton and Ving Rhames will once again provide support. As with the previous installments of the franchise the film will be produced by Skydance productions and TC productions (Tom Cruise’s owncompany).

Mission Impossible V is scheduled for a summer 2015 release.
